TONYA HERRIOTT-THOMAS

Born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, I am a passionate and dedicated professional in the natural hair industry. With over two decades of experience, I hold multiple credentials, including Licensed Hair Braider, Licensed Hair Braider Teacher, Brand Ambassador, Certified Sisterlocks™ Consultant (since 2004), Sisterlocks™ Certified Trainer Associate, and Natural Hair Care Professional.

My natural hair journey began in 2001 when I embraced the beauty of my natural texture by doing the “big chop” and rocking my TWA (teeny weeny afro). It was a liberating experience, but at the time, resources for natural hair care were limited. Without the convenience of social media, I relied on library research to learn how to care for my hair. One of the most impactful books I found—and still cherish today—is No Lye by hair pioneer Tulani Kinard.

My personal loc journey started with comb coils, followed by two-strand twists, which I wore for nearly two years. Then, I saw someone at work with Sisterlocks™—and it was love at first sight! Sisterlocks™ is a trademarked system founded in 1993 by Dr. JoAnne Cornwell, and it completely changed my approach to natural hair. I have now been a Certified Sisterlocks™ Consultant and proud wearer for over 21 years, and choosing this path has been one of the best decisions of my life.

As a professional, my mission is to create a positive and enriching experience for my clients by fostering strong consultant-client relationships, promoting scalp health for beautiful, thriving locs, and educating individuals on the importance of proper hair care. Healthy hair starts with knowledge, and I am committed to empowering others on their natural hair journey!
